Kilim Carpet

Kilim rugs are flatwoven carpets and nomadic textiles made without knots, produced using weaving techniques that developed in Central and Asia Minor, the Caucasus region, and North Africa. These objects are closely linked to the nomadic way of life and were present in every culture where the craft of weaving was known and practiced.

Our selection presents antique and contemporary pieces from the Caucasus, the Atlas Mountains, and the Taurus Mountains. The exhibited rugs are made from outstanding-quality, highland nomadic wool and combine practical function with rich artistic value, making them timeless elements in contemporary homes as well.

The special highlights of this year are rugs from southwestern Iraq, originating from the delta region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. These rarely seen textiles preserve the traditions of a distinctive natural and cultural environment, where the proximity of the rivers, the nomadic and semi-nomadic way of life, and ancient weaving techniques created a unique visual world. The rugs reflect both the practical considerations of everyday use and rich artistic traditions, making them distinctive highlights of this year’s exhibition.
